ATWT's Jennifer: A Fatal Mistake?

ATWT's Johnny is given a clean bill of health this week, but his mother isn't so lucky: Jennifer is diagnosed with pneumonia. But that doesn't stop her from trying to go home. "She doesn't feel like she's that sick. The desire to be with her family is more important at this point," explains Jennifer Ferrin, whose character is convinced to spend one night in the hospital by Dusty, then has a showdown with Dr. Lucy, who won't approve her release the next morning. "On the one hand, she thinks, 'It's Lucy, she's just an intern,' shrugs Ferrin. "I don't know if it would have been different if her Uncle Bob had been there, but when Lucy slips that she can leave (against medical advice), it's like, 'Oh, well, I'm gone.' Her convictions about being with Johnny are really strong; her own health is not a priority. And I think that's what most mothers do: put their child above everything." Jen hides her illness from Dusty, but Paul and Meg (after reading her chart) rush to tell him that Jennifer should still be under medical supervision. Meanwhile, Lucy admits to Lucinda that she may have made a terrible mistake. Unfortunately for Jen, it turns out that she DID make the wrong decision -- she collapses, Dusty blames Lucy, and the rest of the week is can't-miss -- but could her error in judgment be fatal? As previously reported, Ferrin is leaving; her last air date should be sometime in early July and no recast has been announced. For now, the actress won't give anything away. "I feel so lucky. It's a beautiful way to leave the show, for me," says Ferrin, who has already finished taping her last scenes.

Internet fans returned from the ATWT/GL fan weekend at King's Dominion in Virginia with some scoop: a whodunit and a location shoot are in the works for ATWT.

June 28 -- Emily tries to secure her freedom.
June 30 -- Carly and Jack get a chance to reconcile.
July 3 -- Gwen and Casey are caught in a close moment.

Maddie and Dallas reveal a secret connection.
Katie and Simon disappear together, leaving a heartbroken Mike behind.
A guilty Luke distances himself from his family and draws closer to Damian.

I had predicted that Dallas and Maddie would know each other. I'm glad he's tied to Maddie and not Jade. I doubt they were a couple since Maddie is so young and seems so inexperienced with boys. Their connection could be anything. I'm looking forward to it.

I think it's really not surprising that Lucy will be blamed for a decision that Jennifer makes. Aren't all of Jen's bad decisions someone else's fault and usually blamed on a member of the Montgomery family? Everyone knows that you can check yourself out of any hospital against doctor's orders unless you have been legally committed to a psych ward. The results of Jennifer's decision to leave will be no one's fault but Jennifer's. Dr. Phil would tell her it's time to take ownership of her own life.

Lucy tells Jennifer that it isn't wise to leave the hospital, but she can of her own accord, IF that's Jennifer's decision. Another way to dramatize the connection between Lucy and Dusty.

Personally, I hope they don't leave Jennifer in a coma like they did with Rosanna and they just kill Jennifer off. I've grown to like Jennifer, but she isn't the reason I'd stop watching ATWT. ;)

I think SOD is just hyping this story up. I doubt they will kill Jennifer off and to put her in a coma right now would be pretty lame since Lily is in a coma right now as well as Rosanna. I'm not sure what is coming and to be honest, I like not knowing. I think that what ever takes Jennifer off canvas will be temperary.... I just don't see them killing off any of Barbara's children.

It would be nice to have one fun story this summer that doesn't revolve around misery. Maybe Katie and Simon will be that story.

I don't get all the Jennifer hate. I think she's a fascinating character. I'm not a fan of Dusty and Jennifer, but the writers have put this character through so much in the past year including the supposed deaths of her son, her brother and her lover. I think Jennifer Ferrin has nailed all the right emotions every time and has held my interest unlike many other actors/characters.

I'm sad to see her leave.

Exactly. I LOVE Jen and understand why she does what she does. She's a mom who wants to be with her son. It's obviously a mistake, but I get it. There's going to be some fabulous acting involved; I know that for sure.

It does amuse me that Lucy screws up, and Dusty blames her. I have to agree. Lucy's all over that hospital; it's ridiculous. They should've brought her back as a med student; that would've been semi-believable. I think it's funny that she could tell Damian about Lily, but balked at telling Justy about Johnny. At least they were actual relatives, not ex relatives.

I really don't like how they've been writing Damian. I'm thrilled to have Paolo back on the show, but I don't care for them bringing characters back just to make them the fall guy....which is what they are doing to Damian here.

I think it fits Damian's personality and background for him to be in deep denial about Luke. So, I think it's realistic from that standpoint.

I hate that he's letting Lily take the fall for what he did, but I don't consider that shocking either. Damian's a lot of things, but a paragon of virtue isn't one of them, as I recall.

I'm sure eventually Damian will apologize to all involved, admit how wrong he was, etc.

That's the thing....there are a lot of people who love the character....and even moreso, who are huge supporters of Jen Ferrin, and the people who are being so mean spirited know that it's uncalled for....they just see an opportunity for meanness and they grab it. :rolleyes:

I'm not upset by the way Damian is being written. Paolo is playing it well and I don't see him as a one-note villain in this story.

I agree...I think it's ridiculous to trash anyone, character or actor, just because of a soap couple. Doing so doesn't really help your cause, imo, because it makes fans of that character/actor dislike the ones you are trying so fervently to support. It really isn't doing them any favors in the grand scheme.

I just don't want Damian made out to be the bad guy....and I really feel that is what they are doing. I've loved Damian from the beginning, and he always had a bit of an edge, but he also had a very kind heart underneath. He wasn't a bad guy. I want to acting like the Damian of old, I guess. As long as they don't just use him to make Holden a hero...that's my worst fear for the story.

Hmm, I was a Lusty lover, not anymore as I now hate Dusty, but this is not the reason I hate Jenn. She makes stupid decisions all the time, and always blame someone else for them acting like she is as pure as snow. But I hate Dusty way more., He is a man with former mob connections and he goes around JUDGING people? Please! I am tired of him abusing every woman in town too. As for Jenn F., she is a great actress, it is her character I have a problem with. She will go far, I am sure.

Now, I am not about Actor/Actress bashing at all...but when it comes to character, it does not mean anything towards the actor themselves. I dislike Jen Munson for many reasons, many having nothing to do with Dusty or this past year. Actually I have hated Jen Munson before Jen Ferrin was the actress who played her. Now I do love Jen F, she is a terrific actress and I wish her all the best. Of course, on the other hand, I am thrilled that I don't have to see whining Jen Munson on anymore, or at least for a while.

Jennifer Ferrin is talented but I am one who would be glad to see the character Jennifer go if this was a "fatal" mistake and I don't like Justy or Lusty, especially Justy since I don't like either character in the pairing.
